Centrifugal and Coriolis Force
a. Pretend you are doing science outreach at a middle school and you need to explain why extratropical cyclones (using a different word) spin counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere. Record a video of your explanation without using the word "Coriolis." I encourage you to use hands-on materials, such as a globe/ball, spinning chairs, weather data visualizations, etc. Make it fun!
b. The Coriolis parameter vector is given by f=(0,0,2sinθ). Explain the validity of the approximations made within the context of the three-dimensional momentum equations.
c. Quantitatively compare the Coriolis and centrifugal forces in the three-dimensional momentum equations. Why do we care more about the Coriolis force than the centrifugal force?
