Heritability is high when much of the phenotypic variation is produced by genetic variation and little is contributed by environmental variation. C. Heritability for a given trait in a population can change if environmental factors change. D. Traits with high heritability are not very responsive to environmental changes. E. Which of the following statements about the concept of natural selection is false? Select one: Natural selection is an evolutionary process whereby different individuals survive and reproduce at different rates based on particular characteristics they possess. According to the concept of natural selection, those who survive and reproduce at a greater rate pass on more of their genes to the next generation, as compared to those who have a lower survival and reproduction rate. The frequency of a trait favored by natural selection will increase over generations whether the trait is heritable or not. Only natural selection can produce adaptations consistently. All of the above are true; none is false.

00:01 Okay, so the directed human evolution by selective breeding would be described as what? eugenics, social darwinism, scientific racism, environmental determinism, or natural selection.
00:15 Okay, first, it's not going to be natural selection, because there's selective breeding, that would be artificial.
00:22 It's also not social darwinism, which is, at its basic, the idea that human beings are subject to natural selection, and often that it can be applied to something like sociology for a survival of a fittest thing.
00:36 For the others, environmental determinism is the hypothesis that the physical environment shapes human development.
00:49 So environmental determinism is that the environment shapes society, which initially doesn't sound like such a bad thing, but it has often been.
01:04 Being used as a form of scientific racism.
01:07 For example, during colonial periods, where, especially when africa was being colonised, the scientists at the time could say, well, tropical climates predisposed society to uncivil behaviour, and use that as an excuse for colonial behaviour.
01:25 So it's often been used as a form of scientific racism...
