What is meant by "reflux" and what purpose does it serve? Briefly explain how to do TLC chromatography. What special safety precautions are required when mixing concentrated sulfuric and concentrated nitric acids? What functional group gives an Infrared absorption at approximately 1700 cm-1? Aldol products containing phenyl rings often dehydrate upon work-up with acids; what is it about this structural feature that facilitates the loss of water?

Explain external reflux ratio and internal reflux ratio in shortcut distillation column. What if the internal reflux ratio become zero
Esophageal pH A healthy esophagus has a pH of about 7.0. When acid reflux occurs, stomach acid (which has pH ranging from 1.0 to 3.0) flows backward from the stomach into the esophagus. When the pH of the esophagus is less than 4.0, the episode is called "clinical acid reflux" and can cause ulcers and damage the lining of the esophagus. The graph shows esophageal pH for a sleeping patient with acid reflux. During what time interval is the patient considered to have an episode of clinical acid reflux?
