Figure 2 shows the mechanism of a foot lever supplementary braking system. A force of 50N pull the lever to the right, answer the following question: a) Calculate the forces acted on pin A and B if F = 500 N is given to the lever. State whether rod BC is in tension or compression b) Calculate the diameter of the rod BC to nearest mm if the allowable normal stress is 100 MPa. c) Calculate the diameter of the pin A to the nearest mm if the allowable shear stress is 70 MPa. [Note: pin A is in double shear].

The block brake consists of a pin-connected lever and friction block at $B$. The coefficient of static friction between the wheel and the lever is $\mu_{x}=0.3,$ and a torque of $5 \mathrm{N} \cdot \mathrm{m}$ is applied to the wheel. Determine if the brake can hold the whecl stationary when the force applicd to the lever is (a) $P=30 \mathrm{N},$ (b) $P=70 \mathrm{N}$.
The block brake consists of a pin-connected lever and friction block at $B$. The coefficient of static friction between the wheel and the lever is $\mu_{s}=0.3,$ and a torque of $5 \mathrm{N} \cdot \mathrm{m}$ is applied to the wheel. Determine if the brake can hold the wheel stationary when the force applied to the lever is (a) $P=30 \mathrm{N},$ (b) $P=70 \mathrm{N}$
Piston 1 in the figure has a diameter of 0.26 in and is attached to a lever arm a distance 1.7 in from the pivot point. Piston 2 has a diameter of 1.5 in. An external force F acts on the lever arm at a distance 15 in from piston 1 as shown below. Assume the height difference between piston 1 and piston 2 is negligible. In the absence of friction, find the force F necessary to support the 402 lb weight. Answer in units of lb.
