One of the most important literacy skills children need to develop in early childhood is phonological awareness - or the awareness of the sounds in speech and words. As children develop phonological awareness, they become attuned to the sound structures of words and begin to isolate or logically replace sounds. Students with developing phonological awareness skills may be able to participate in activities involving alliteration, rhyming, and segmentation. Select the activity examples below that support students' phonological awareness (select all that apply!) a. Mario shows a small group of learners how to write the letter "A". He gives them strips of lined paper and monitors them as they make the correct lines. Later, he tapes their writing samples underneath their pictures of apples and explains, "A is for apple". b. An education researcher is interested in determining whether a particular teacher and/or teaching method has an effect on students' reading comprehension scores.
