From a group of 30 people, we have to choose 15 for varsity sports team and we want to find how many different ways we can choose a group of this many people. So the first thing to realize that to solve this problem we have to use permutations and the reason for that is because, with permutations we deal with events where repetitions cannot occur and in that because when we pick people we somehow can pick the same person again. So permutations we use the formula n factorial is equal to n minus r factorial, where n is equal to the total number of people we can pick from. So that's 30 point, so our numerator is 30 and our denominator is still n, minus r and is 30 and r is how many people we we want. 15 point. So if we simplify this expression, this comes out to 30 factorial and then our denominator is 30. Minus 15 factorial, which is just 15 factorial, so 30 factorial divided by 15 factorial, is goin to be quite a large number, so in scientific notation from my calculator, this evaluates to 2.028 times 10 to the 20 point. So this is our final answer and this is how many different ways we can choose: 15 people from a total of 30 for a verse sports.
