00:01
So this doesn't ask a specific question just in general, the evolution of life.
00:06
So i'm going to make some notes about the evolution of life and natural selection, which is the mechanism that causes living things to change over time.
00:17
And it's how organisms evolve.
00:23
So first we have variation.
00:29
So this means that organisms will have differences in, internal and external factors.
00:38
So that could be size, color, the ability to survive, really any differences between organisms.
00:58
Then we have inheritance.
01:06
So during reproduction, dna is passed on.
01:31
Now, dna encodes for different traits, so offspring will inherit traits from their parents.
01:55
Another key part of evolution is selection.
02:04
Now, what this comes down to is that certain traits make it easier or more difficult for organisms to survive.
02:13
So there are more organisms that are born than can survive on earth, meaning that only organisms with certain traits will survive.
02:33
And the traits that these organisms have might be anything from a specific color to blend in better and hide from predators, the ability to run quickly away from predators, any type of trait that allows the organism to thrive, reproduce, and pass on their dna.
03:22
And then, of course, evolution takes time.
03:27
So evolution does not occur in just one generation...
