Given the following data set, determine the interquartile range. The median has been bolded to help you get started.
Height: 1, 7, 9, 13, 18, 27, 30, 35, 44, 46, 61, 67, 68
The interquartile range is:
The interquartile range is the 3rd quartile – 1st quartile. The 3rd quartile is the median of all values greater than or equal to the overall median. Since the overall median is 30, the values that should be considered for determining the 3rd quartile are 30, 35, 44, 46, 61, 67, 68. The median of these values is 46, therefore the 3rd quartile = 46. Now use this example to determine the 1st quartile and then take the difference to find the interquartile range.
