Henry Ford
Henry Ford (1863-1947) was the founder of the Ford Motor Company. By the time he was 12, he spent much of his time in a machine shop that he made himself. He liked to take apart watches and put them back together. When he turned 15, he built his first steam engine.
Ford obtained an apprenticeship at a machinist shop in Detroit, Michigan. By 1891, he was employed as an engineer at the Edison Illuminating Company. Within a few years, he was promoted to Chief Engineer.
In 1893, Ford started tinkering again and created a small one-cylinder gasoline combustion engine. The engine was essentially a lawnmower engine. A few years later, he built the quadricycle.
He resigned from the Edison Illuminating Company in 1899 and started working on the concept for automobiles. The first company Ford organized was the Detroit Automobile Company, which went bankrupt after 18 months.
In 1901, he formed the Henry Ford Company, which later became Cadillac. In 1903, Ford found 12 investors who invested \( \$ 28,000 \) to create the Ford Motor Company. After this, he started selling Model T cars and became successful.
