The figure below shows a torque cell designed to measure the torque T applied to a solid circular shaft of diameter D. The torque cell is made of four strain gauges mounted to form a full-bridge Wheatstone circuit. It is known that the strains and torque are related by: 16T1 + v21 = -82 = 83 = -84 TD E, where ε (i=1,2,3,4) are the strains in the four gauges, and E and v are the Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio of the shaft, respectively. Determine the instrument sensitivity S between the output voltage Eo and the applied torque T.
