What is a master-narrative? Consider the story of The Little Red Hen. What's the moral of the story? Identify two ways in which master-narratives can be oppressive. Then explain why someone might argue that the story of The Little Red Hen embodies an oppressive master-narrative. In identifying the ways in which narrative can be harmful and how we ought to respond to oppressive master-narratives, do narrative ethicists rely on extranarrative ideals? Explain. Your answer should be 200-400 words.

Peers post: There are a couple of differences between dominant historical narratives and historical narratives produced from Black witnessing. Dominant historical narratives were used to suppress the Black community. Dominant historical narratives historically did not include the experiences and/or what minority groups have done. Looking at dominant historical narratives, they would usually focus on White people instead of Black, or other minority groups even if both had the same or similar jobs, education, and accomplishments. This would overlook many great accomplishments of minority groups. Dominant historical narratives from Black witnessing involve telling the truth about what happened through the account of the Black community. Black witnessing has helped make accurate accounts of history, that otherwise would have been completely suppressed or changed in favor of White dominance. This initiative was not solely aimed at the Black community; it also aimed to bring attention to the experiences and achievements of other minority groups. Black people have demonstrated resiliency and agency in many different ways! From getting involved in sports, music, education, and politics. There have been many great athletes who have risen against racism, and many other barriers to play the sport they loved. One such athlete was Jackie Robinson. Both education, as in professors and teachers, as well as politicians, have had an everlasting effect on generations. From changing laws to incorporating diversity into schools and universities, as well as at every level of the government! 1. Reflect on your peer's post and their perspective on the historical nature of Black witnessing. Is there any further historical context to expand on regarding the example of Black witnessing your peer discussed in their post? 2. Can you expand on your peer's discussion of the demonstrated agency and resiliency of Black people in different historical contexts? How do you see this agency and resiliency demonstrated in contemporary U.S. society?
