I GEOMETRY LAB ASSIGNMENT
View the short video on the Prelab Preparation page on Canvas explaining how to use the PhET simulation for Molecule Shapes. Open the PhET simulation that is embedded on the Prelab Preparation page on Canvas. Build the molecules listed in the first column of the table below and fill in the Bond Angle and Molecular Geometry columns for all of them. In the Geometry Virtual Lab document, carefully read the section "Counting Electron Domains" in the Background section for Part II. Fill in the last three columns of the table: BD = number of bonding domains surrounding the central atom (no matter if it is a single, double, or triple bond), NBD = number of nonbonding domains surrounding the central atom (pairs of lone pairs), and TD = total number of domains. Use the Geometry Report Sheet document and fill in Table II-A based on the information in the table. After this Prelab Assignment has been graded, check the feedback and make any necessary corrections in the Report Sheet. Use the Different Table Bond Angles and Molecular Geometry document to complete the assignment.
