What is the response to the discussion “I think that both “Pretty” by Katie Makkai and “Phenomenal Woman” by Maya Angelou were very interesting and impactful poems. They both bring up issues involving beauty standards and self worth from opposing sides. “Phenomenal Woman” comes at it with a positive approach emphasizing confidence and feeling proud of who you are even if you don’t have the perfect body because it is still attractive. “Pretty” shows this but through the internal conflict she has with herself to get herself to the physical beauty standards, but by the end she realizes she is pretty in other ways than just physical beauty and that she didn’t need to change herself. I think that both poems are beautifully written and empowering. They made me think about how I view myself and to be more confident in myself. “
