Identify the configuration on your home LAN and Wireless Router. Interpret how to obtain information about a network.
By doing this before Week 10, you will be better prepared for our detailed UCCS Wireless LAN activity. Some questions are worth 0 points (they are survey-type questions), but some questions are worth 1-2 points. The point value for each question is listed in the assignment.
You have a few options for getting the answers to the questions:
- On Windows, you can view your Network settings in the Wireless properties, or run this command from a command prompt: netsh wlan show interfaces.
- Use your wireless router configuration tool. Some routers have apps from the manufacturer that you install on your computer. Some allow you to connect via a web browser. For instance, on my computer, I can visit my Netgear router's configuration page by going to 192.168.1.1 in Firefox. If you are not sure, you can Google "how do I log into my <your brand> wireless router?"
- Use ipconfig/all on Windows or ifconfig on Mac.
- On a Mac, use the Wi-Fi or network connection settings. There is also an app called the Wi-Fi scanner.
