Delta waves are produced during Stages I to III of sleep and are low frequency and high amplitude. Theta waves are produced during our deepest sleep, called Stage IV sleep. Alpha waves sleep is when the majority of dreams occur, and the waves on the EEG are similar to beta waves. Beta waves are produced during times of being awake and mentally alert. Alpha waves are produced in adults who are awake but relaxed with their eyes closed. An EEG is a graphic recording of the brain's electrical activity.
