Increased levels of exercise/activity lead to increased levels of lactate generated in muscle cells. Part of this increase in lactate can be due to oxygen supplies being limited in muscle cells and thus unable to completely break down glucose (oxygen is needed to completely oxidize glucose). These muscle cells transport this excess lactate to the blood. Additionally, the protein that helps to transport lactate from the muscle into the bloodstream also transports H+ into the bloodstream at the same time. How would this affect oxygen delivery near muscle cells and is this advantageous or disadvantageous for all of this to occur?
