ISM Multipoint Equation Practice Problem
A Jamieson Adult Vitamin Tablet was analyzed for calcium. Using the following solution preparation information and the raw data provided, determine the mass of calcium per average tablet.
Mass of 10 vitamin tablets: 18.420 grams
Crushed tablet mass: 1.8122 grams
a) Crushed vitamin tablet was dissolved in an aqueous solution of ICP grade HNO3 and HCl, then transferred to a 100.00 mL volumetric flask and made to the mark (solution A). This solution was vacuum filtered to remove particulates.
b) Three diluted unknown vitamin solutions were prepared by transferring 1.000 mL of solution A to separate 100.00 mL volumetric flasks. 200.0 μL of yttrium (from a 1000.0 ppm stock solution) was transferred to each flask as the internal standard. The unknowns were made to the mark with 2% (v/v) HNO3.
c) Mixed standards were prepared by the technologist (see page 1 of raw data), with 2.000 ppm of yttrium added to each standard before being made to the mark with 2% (v/v) HNO3.
d) A blank solution of 2% (v/v) HNO3 containing 2.000 ppm of yttrium was also prepared.
