Jane's imaging study needs the results transmitted to an academic medical center for further follow up. She brings the CD of images and hands it to the tech before her CT-guided needle biopsy. The tech takes the CD and attempts to load the images into the PACS system for review by the radiologist asks Jane if she wants the CD back after the procedure and Jane declines, saying "it won't be of any use to me." The rest of the biopsy is routine and is completed without any issues. The tissue samples are sent to the pathologist for review and classification. Discussion of how interoperability could improve Jane's overall care experience.

Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by a bacterium spread from person to person through the air. It affects the lungs, but can also affect the kidneys, brain, and spine. A simple diagnostic test for TB involves injecting antigen (from the bacterium that causes TB) under the skin and then waiting a few days for a reaction to appear. If a reaction occurs, a person has the TB infection (although the majority of people won't develop an active disease with symptoms). Would this test be useful in diagnosing TB in patients with AlDS? Predict whether patients with both AlDS and TB infection would have a positive skin test or not.
Match the correct imaging scan with the definition. Some will have more than one correct match: Mammogram Magnetic resonance imaging testing Imaging scans Computerized tomography scans Positron emission tomography Match each of the options above to the items below: - Uses powerful magnets and radio waves to produce detailed computer-generated pictures of the body - Radioactive material injected into the body to act as a tracer - Taken as a series of X-ray pictures of the body at different angles to create a multi-dimensional view of the internal organs - Used in diagnosing cancer after an initial blood test suggests the presence of cancer in the body - An X-ray picture of the breast to look for early signs of breast cancer
Sukhwinder N.
Mrs. H went for a routine mammogram and learned that there is a large mass in her right breast. A biopsy confirmed the presence of a malignant tumor. Mrs. H is worried as there is a family history of breast cancer (her mother and her aunt both had it). No metastases were detected at this time. Her doctor suggested she complete a mastectomy along with the removal of a number of axillary and mediastinal lymph nodes. (Source variation: Gould's Pathophysiology 4th ed.) Explain the potential reason behind this suggestion. If pathological examination of the nodes verified that Mrs. H is in stage III of her cancer, what other treatment recommendations may be given for her breast cancer?
