Jenny, G4P2 is now 35 weeks pregnant. Her BGLs (blood glucose levels) are higher than recommended, but only first thing in the morning. She is working closely with the consultant and diabetic educator to get them under control. She has been commenced on Labetalol for hypertension, and her BP is now 120/75.
She tells you she is worried she will not be able to breastfeed. Her mother also had gestational diabetes and was not able to. Can she do anything to prepare herself now? Discuss this in regard to best practice guidelines and empowering Jenny, enabling autonomy and self-care.
