What was Kepler's contribution to our understanding of the solar system? Select one: a. He discovered that planets move around the earth in elliptical orbits b. He discovered that planets move in circular orbits around the sun c. He discovered that planets move in elliptical orbits around the sun d. He discovered the planet Saturn

Kepler's first law - sometimes referred to as the law of ellipses - explains that planets are orbiting the sun in a path described as an ellipse. The distance from the Sun changes over the course of an orbit. Aphelion is the farthest point, perihelion is the closest point. Use these equations: r_aphelion = a * (1 + e) r_perihelion = a * (1 - e) Find the Aphelion of Earth (in AU), which has an eccentricity e = 0.017 and semi-major axis a = 1 AU.

What is one of Kepler's laws of planetary motion? a. Planets move on elliptical orbits with the Sun at one focus. b. Gravitational force between two objects decreases as the distance is squared. c. An object in motion remains in motion. d. Inner planets orbit in the opposite direction of outer ones.
