3. For a machined shaft with material properties below and depicted in the figure below, rotating and simply supported at B and C, driven by gear (not shown) that meshes with spur gear at D, with a pitch diameter of 200 mm.
(a) Determine the static yield analysis using distortion energy theory for points B and C.
(b) Perform fatigue-failure analysis using the DE-Goodman criteria.
Assume sharp fillet radii at the bearing shoulders for estimating stress-concentration factors, K = 0.85, a q of 0.85, and a qsheer of 0.95.
