Patient, 50 years old, complains of high blood pressure and polyuria. Objective examination: blood pressure -- 180/120 mmHg. No changes in hemogram and urogram. The volume of blood plasma is 6% of body weight (N - 4.5-5% of body weight). The concentration of sodium in the blood plasma is 156 mmol/l (N - 135-145 mmol/l), potassium - 3 mmol/l (N - 3.5-5.0 mmol/l), osmolarity - 320 mOsm/l (N - 280-300 mOsm/l), blood glucose - 4 mmol/l (N - 3.3-5.5 mmol/l). Ultrasound revealed a tumor in the right adrenal gland. Questions: 1. What hormone of the adrenal gland increased blood pressure in this patient? 2. Does this patient have primary or secondary hypertension? 3. What is Arterial hypertension?

G.S is 30 years old African American woman who was recently diagnosed with hypertension. Both her mother and sister have hypertension, and both were also in their thirties when it was diagnosed. G.'s most current blood pressure reading is 150/96 mm Hg, and for this reason the nurse practitioner has recommended therapy with captopril (Capoten), light exercise in the form of walking, and relaxation therapy. After 1 month of therapy, G.'s blood pressure is 145/86 mm Hg. Stress reduction has been the biggest obstacle in her treatment, because she is a lawyer with a prominent law firm and has found that her blood pressure is consistently elevated (160/100 mm Hg) whenever she measures it at work. At this follow-up visit, she is also given a prescription for a diuretic to help with her blood pressure control. 1.What type of diuretic was probably prescribed for G.S. at this time? Explain your answer.
