The learning of effective escape behaviors can be adaptive to the degree that it allows the person to escape from similar threats in the future, but it can also compete with the person's other adaptive responses and create neuroticism. It can lead the person to over-generalize the harmful event to non-dangerous situations. It can encourage the person to learn to master other ways to cope with similar threatening situations. It does not turn the person into a psychopathic or deranged killer. Conscientiousness appears to bear considerable similarity to what need? Sociability, achievement motivation, need for affiliation, or confirmation motivation? Environmentalists (behaviorists) attempt to explain unseen mental processes, attempt to understand motivation related to genes, attempt to understand observable behavior, and explain unseen mental processes by using life-changing events.
