If the patients' level of pain improved, these doctors concluded that it had no physical basis. 00:06 And this question is testing our knowledge of the placebo effect.
00:13 So i think it would be useful to first define what a placebo is.
00:20 So a placebo is a specific treatment or even a substance, which has absolutely no therapeutic value.
00:28 So in other words, it does nothing.
00:29 So i'm going to write that down here.
00:32 So it's a substance.
00:34 Or treatment that has no therapeutic value, i .e., it does nothing.
01:01 So when we're talking about the placebo effect, it's actually a very interesting phenomenon that people experience.
01:09 So i'll do this through a little bit of an example.
01:13 So let's say there's a study, and in the study there are these scientists developing, an energy pill.
01:21 So essentially it's this pill that's supposed to give you more energy...
