Peers chosen topic:
My topic for the paper is going to be the constructs of gender and sexuality. I chose this because of the media focus and the impact on people in my life. I also had a more finite interest as I have a young son and growing up as the only girl with brothers, my perspective on gender was fixed at a young age. I never mowed the lawn or shoveled snow until I was an adult, however, I did the dishes and folded laundry for my family of 6, babysat, did bathtime and bedtime....etc. The impact on constructs of sexuality has rapidly changed in the last 10 years. I find the expansion of the topic and the social attention to be a fascinating jumping-off point for more research. The diverse narratives for this historic topic are from all perspectives because the modern culture is more expressive. There are first-hand accounts from racial minorities, LGBTQIA+, and cis-male and female individuals. Gender and sexuality are not new terms however the aforementioned attention has impacted U.S History and society. The target bathroom debate and the changes it has made to bathroom accesability is one small example to be used.
