A new medication, Toothurtsol, claims that it effectively reduces tooth pain in 98% of all toothache cases. The medication reduces tooth pain in toothache cases (or does not reduce pain) independently. To simulate the medication's performance on 10 toothache cases, use two digits to simulate one case with 02 to 99 meaning "pain is reduced" and these random digits: 60970 70024 17868 29843 61790 90656 87964 18883 The number of toothache cases where the medication reduced pain out of the 10 total cases is 10 9 8 2 1

John Allen is scheduled for a diagnosis on tooth #20. This is Mr. Allen's first time seeing an endodontist, and his subjective comments describe pain when chewing on the affected side and a constant dull pain lasting for approximately a week. How did Mr. Allen know to see an endodontist for dental treatment? What type of tooth is #20, and how many canals could be affected? What type of diagnostic testing will the dentist perform to determine the type of endodontic treatment required? Which tooth is used as the control tooth during diagnostic evaluation, and why is a control tooth used? It was determined that the tooth would need a pulpectomy. Describe what this procedure entails, including the name for the tray set-up that would be used for the procedure. What type of pain control would the endodontist use during the procedure to help alleviate unwarranted stress as well as discomfort? How would tooth #20 be completely restored, and what dentist would complete this procedure?

enamel dentin periodontal ligaments molar pulp premolar permanent canine The teeth have two distinct cusps. Humans have two sets of teeth, their deciduous teeth and their teeth. Deciduous teeth fall out when the holding them into their bony socket are broken down. A toothache happens when a cavity reaches the of the tooth, because that is where the nerves are located. Not brushing your teeth well can lead to the gums receding, exposing the neck of the tooth where milk is not present.

Dentists apply local anesthetics to deaden the pain associated with filling a cavity. These drugs block sodium channels in neurons surrounding the affected tooth. Major surgery requires general anesthetics that act on the brain, causing the patient to become unconscious and unaware of his or her surroundings. Use what you have learned about the nervous system to explain how local and general anesthetics temporarily eliminate pain.
