Question 4:
A jet of water having a velocity of 50 m/s impinges on a series of curved vanes at an angle of 15° to the line of motion of the vane. The angles of the vanes at the inlet and exit are θ = 30° and φ = 15°. Assuming frictionless conditions, find the following from the velocity analysis of the triangles at the inlet and exit of the vane:
a) The velocity of the vane (u) to avoid shock at entry.
b) The absolute velocity at the exit (V).
c) The power obtained in horsepower (h.p) from a series of 10 vanes if the diameter of the jet (d_jet) is 0.2 m.
