Problem 1 (25 Marks) (a) Derive the equations for slope and deflection of a cantilever beam under point and uniformly distributed load (shown in Fig. 1(a) and (b)) using statics and double integration method. [10 points] (b) Determine the expression for the maximum deflections developed at the free end. [10 points] (c) If the beams are made from ASTM -60 Gray Cast Iron having the rectangular hollow cross section (shown in Fig.1 (c)) with l = 5 m. Find the forces, F and w, required to cause a displacement of 10 mm at the free end. Hint: use properties of Cast Iron given in table A-24 of the textbook. [5 points]

A beam weighing 50 kg is attached to a pin at C and supported by a steel cable OA with Young’s modulus, E = 200 x 10⁹ N/m² as shown in Figure Q2. An inclined force of 5000 N is applied to end of the beam at point D with 40° angle measured from the x-axis. Figure Q2 Loadings on beam a) Draw a free-body diagram of the beam b) Calculate the tension of steel cable OA c) Determine the reaction forces of Fcx and Fcy d) Determine the elongation of steel cable OA
