and alternates from 0 to 1500 lbf*in and the shaft diameter of BC is 0.75 in. The shaft is simply supported at O and C. Assume that
transverse shear stresses can be neglected. The fully corrected endurance limit is Se = 40 kpsi and Sut = 110 kpsi, Sy = 120 kpsi. The
shoulder fillet at B gives a fatigue stress concentration for bending of Kā= 2.1 and for torsion of Kfs = 1.7
a) Check for yielding.
b) Find the minimum fatigue factor of safety based on achieving infinite life using the GOODMAN fatigue failure criterion.
c) If FINITE life is predicted, estimate the number of cycles to failure using the SMITH-WATSON-TOPPER (SWT) criterion.
