Q2. Temperatures of a particular patient admitted in ICU are taken at 30-minute intervals. The patient is declared 'stable' if a reading is in the closed interval [34.5°C, 38.5°C]. Patient's records indicate that the chances of a reading being within this interval are 60%.
(i) If within a particular time interval the first reading was taken at 6:00 am and the last reading was taken at 9:00 am of the same day, determine the probability of having less than 2 readings or at most 4 readings within the required interval.
(ii) Determine the probability of having at least 8 but not exceeding 18 readings within the interval in a 12-hour period.
Q3. Records of a certain Insurance firm show that domestic insurance premiums taken by clients are normally distributed. They further show that the chances of a client taking a premium of at least Ksh 50,000 are 93.32%, while the chances of at most Ksh 225,000 are 97.5%.
(i) Determine the mean μ and standard deviation σ of the premiums taken by clients.
(ii) Check whether the percentage of clients in a sample of 600 whose premiums do not exceed Ksh 147,000 is 67%.
