Diesel Cycle (10 points)
An ideal diesel engine has a compression ratio of 18 and uses the air as the working fluid. The state of air at the beginning of the compression process is 100 kPa and 30°C. If the maximum temperature in the cycle is not to exceed 2300 K, determine
(a) the thermal efficiency;
(b) the mean effective pressure ( wnet/(Vmax-Vmin) ).
Assume constant specific heats for air at room temperature. The properties of air at room temperature are Cp = 1.005 kJ/kg·K, Cv = 0.718 kJ/kg·K, R = 0.287 kJ/kg·K, and γ = 1.4.
