Once pyridoxamine phosphate (PMP) is formed, it can be used to facilitate a transamination process for the conversion of alpha-ketoglutarate to glutamate (ketone to amine). This process is important because it is used in the synthesis of the amino acid glutamine and in the metabolism of glucose.
