a) An oscillator generates a wave in a string through an action perpendicular to the string as shown in the figure. If f is the frequency, yd is the displacement of the oscillator, τ is the tension in the string, and μ is the linear density. What is the maximum transverse velocity and the maximum angle θ?
b) If a similar action at the other end produces a standing wave in fundamental resonance, with a node at each end for the the string of length L, what is the maximum transverse velocity for the middle point in terms of the frequency f, and yd? Also what is the tension in the string in terms of μ, f, and L?
