A nylon rope is looped around two pulleys as shown in the following figure. Determine the maximum moment M (torque) that can be transmitted from A to B if the radius of the pulleys is R = 300 mm and the distance between the pulleys is H = 1.2 m. The coefficient of friction between nylon rope and steel rim is fs = 0.35 and allowable rope tension is 4.0 kN. Assume no interference occurs between parts of the rope.

Step 1
First, we need to find the angle of contact between the rope and the pulleys. Since the rope is looped around both pulleys, the angle of contact for each pulley is 180 degrees or π radians. Show more…

The figure shows a 100kg block being released from rest from a height of 1.0m. It then takes it 14.7688s to reach the floor. Determine the tension in the rope while the masses are in motion (in N). The pulley has no appreciable mass or friction.

'Q2: The weight W= 10 kN hangs from the cable, which passes over the pulley at F. Neglecting the weights of the bars and the pulley, determine the magnitude of the pin reaction at D and and all forces acting on member ABC. 15m 15 m R=0.4 m W 2 m 2 m'
