Word Components Assignment (25 points, one point per answer given. Please note there are two answers needed in the Root(s)/Combining Form(s) column.) As you can see in the first few pages of the text, medical terms are comprised of separate parts, or word component parts, each of which pays a role in the term's construction and its meaning. Four basic word parts have been introduced as well as the concept of the combining form, which is the root and a combining vowel expressed as root + /o. This assignment is presented in a grid. Follow the examples provided to deconstruct five (5) medical terms with which you are likely unfamiliar. You will need to use a medical dictionary reference to find the meaning of some of the word components. If a word component is not present in this term, indicate none or N/A in the appropriate column. Use hyphens at the end of a prefix and at the beginning of a suffix. Term | Prefix(es) if any, and meaning | Root(s) and meaning(s) | Combining vowel(s) if present | Combining form(s) (root + /o) | Suffix and meaning Example: arthrectomy | None | Arthr = joint | None | Arthr/o | -ectomy = to excise, cut out Example: anticarcinogenic | anti- = against | Carcin = cancer | "o" between carcin and -genic | Carcin/o | -genic = arising from nucleoid | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. osteomyelography | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. posthepatic | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. radiculopathy | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. pericardial | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here. | Type text here.
