Researchers examine the relationship between childhood attachment and anxiety in early adulthood. Participants completed retrospective questionnaires that assessed attachment to their primary caregivers during childhood. Participants were placed into 3 categories based upon the characteristics of these attachments: (1) secure attachment, (2) insecure/anxious attachment, or (3) insecure/avoidant attachment. Participants also completed self-report questionnaires that assessed trait anxiety levels. Anxiety scores ranged from 20 (no or low anxiety) to 80 (high anxiety). Which statistical test would they use to determine if there is a difference in adult anxiety levels based on which type of attachment they experienced during childhood?
