Question

Identify the type of sampling bias guaranteed to occur in each of the sampling schemes, based on the information provided. Some sampling schemes may incur multiple types of bias. A political poll is conducted by contacting people on landline phones. The pollsters did not keep track of how many people they contacted who did not respond. A political poll is administered by contacting people on landline phones. The pollsters contacted 10,000 households, and 2366 individuals agreed to speak with the caller. A political poll is conducted by asking the listeners of a radio program to call in. A political poll asks the question, "If you found out that Candidate A was given a large sum of money by Special Interest Group B, would that change your opinion of how hypocritical Candidate A is?" recent-poll-was-conducted-regarding-the-opinions-of-americans-on-variety-of-covid-related-policies-you-can-see-the-poll-results-nere-and-the-methodology-here-according-to-the-methodology-sec-97985

A recent poll was conducted regarding the opinions of Americans on a variety of COVID-related policies (you can see the poll results here and the methodology here). According to the methodology section, "calls are placed to randomly-selected phone numbers through a process that ensures appropriate geographic representation." Furthermore, Rasmussen notes that a "processing step is required because different segments of the population answer the phone in different ways. For example, women answer the phone more than men, older people are home more and answer more than younger people, and rural residents typically answer the phone more frequently than urban residents." As for the results, among other things, Rasmussen reports that the survey, which sampled 1,016 likely U.S. voters, "found that 75% of likely Democratic voters - but only 21% of Republicans and 38% of unaffiliated voters - have a favorable opinion of Dr. Fauci." a) How would you describe the 0.21 (or 21%) figure that the survey found? Select all that apply. It is a mean. It is a statistic. It is a parameter. It is a proportion. b) What type of sampling method should the pollsters be using to ensure that every important geographic location is represented? Simple random sampling Randomized cluster sampling Voluntary response sampling Systematic random sampling Stratified random sampling c) What issue does the methodology section allude to when it describes that processing is required because different population segments are more or less likely to answer phone surveys? Nonresponse bias Bias from nonrandom sampling Response bias Undercoverage bias d) What tool would be most appropriate to visualize the results of this study with regard to the favorability of Dr. Fauci among the different groups? A contingency table One set of side-by-side boxplots A histogram with multiple bars A series of boxplots

a-pollster-for-the-public-policy-institute-of-california-explains-how-the-institute-selects-a-samp-4-41326

A pollster for the Public Policy Institute of California explains how the Institute selects a sample of California adults That is done by using computer-generated random residential telephone numbers with all California prefixes, and when there are no answers, calling back repeatedly to the original numbers selected to avoid a bias against hard-to-reach people. Once a call is completed, a second random selection is made by asking for the adult in the household who had the most recent birthday. It is as important to randomize who you speak to in the household as it is to randomize the household you select. If you didnt, you'd primarily get women and older people. Comment on this approach to selecting a sample. How does the sampling procedure attempt to minimize certain types of bias? Are there sources of bias that may still be a concern?

(Textbook, p.230, Q7.9) In a random sample of 64 people, 48 are classified as "successful". If the population proportion is 0.70, determine the standard error of sample proportions from all possible combinations of 64 people (round to the nearest decimal digit). (Textbook, p.230, Q7.12) A political pollster is conducting an analysis of sample results in order to make predictions on election night. Assuming a 70 candidate election, if a specific candidate receives at least 55% of the vote in the sample, that candidate will be forecasted as the winner of the election. If you select a random sample of 100 voters, what is the probability that the candidate will be forecasted as the winner when the population percentage of their vote is 60%? (in decimal format, round to decimal digits, i.e. 5% = 0.0500)

00:01 We're looking at sampling bias and types of sampling bias, and we've got four scenarios.
00:08 And we want to note which type of sampling bias were guaranteed to get.
00:13 So the first scenario, we have a poll that's conducted by contacting people on landline phones.
00:27 And that's your first key right there.
00:29 And this is going to be under coverage bias.
00:32 And the reason for that is because under coverage bias occurs when a part of the population is excluded from your type of sample.
00:47 So here we're only talking to people with landline phones and not everyone has a landline phone.
00:52 So there's a chunk of the population not represented.
00:56 And then number two, we have a political poll that's administered by contacting people on landline phones.
01:02 Same scenario.
01:05 And they contacted 10 ,000 households.
01:08 But only 2366 out of 10 ,000 people agreed to speak.
01:17 So this, we have non -response bias.
01:29 So non -response bias occurs when survey participant is unwilling or unable to respond to a survey question or the entire survey.
01:38 And so here we have the almost 8 ,000 people is at 70 ,000.
01:44 7 ,000, over 7 ,000 people didn't respond to the survey...
