Effect of Siblings on SAT Scores. In Born Together-Reared Apart: The Landmark Minnesota Twin Study, Nancy Segal discusses the efforts of research psychologists at the University of Minnesota to understand similarities and differences between twins by studying sets of twins who were raised separately. Below are evidence-based reading and writing (EBRW) SAT scores for several pairs of identical twins (twins who share all of their genes) and were raised separately, one of whom was raised in a family with no other children (no siblings) and one of whom was raised in a family with other children (with siblings). a. What is the mean difference between the EBRW SAT scores for the twins raised with no siblings and the twins raised with siblings? b. Provide a $90 \%$ confidence interval estimate of the mean difference between the EBRW SAT scores for the twins raised with no siblings and the twins raised with siblings. c. Conduct a hypothesis test of equality of the critical reading SAT scores for the twins raised with no siblings and the twins raised with siblings at $\alpha=.01 .$ What is your conclusion?

Biological siblings (reared in the same home) will be moderately correlated for behavioral phenotypes such as number of hours watching tv per day. This is because the pair shared both additive genetic influences (i.e., genetic propensity towards general activity level, boredom, lethargy, etc.) and shared environmental influences (i.e., parental modeling of high or low tv watching, access to streaming services, number of accessible tvs in household, etc.) that contributes to pair similarity. List the sources of resemblance that may lead to a correlation in tv watching across the following types of family pairs: birth parent with their biological child (reared in the same home), adoptive siblings (reared in same home), biological siblings adopted into different homes, adoptive parent with adoptee child (reared in the same home), birth (biological) parent with their adoptive away child (not raised by bio parent)

Research studies have consistently reported that IQ scores of identical twins are more similar than the IQ scores of fraternal twins. These results suggest that: a. the influence of nature on children's intellectual development. b. the influence of nurture on children's intellectual development. c. siblings of the same gender will be more intellectually similar. d. siblings raised in a similar environment will be more intellectually similar.
