Study
Some have claimed that children of divorced parents are not as well adjusted as children of married parents. To test this idea, you set up two groups. One group consists of 101 children who have divorced parents. The other group consists of 100 children who have married parents. Each child in the study was asked to complete the Social Adjustment Scale for Children (SASC). Higher scores on the SASC indicate better adjustment. Does this study contain an independent variable? Why or why not? What dependent variable is measured in this study? What is the hypothesis for this study? What is the alternative hypothesis? The hypothesis is that there is a difference in the SASC scale between the two groups of children. With alpha set at 0.05, p = 0.02. What decision should be made with regard to the null hypothesis?
Possible sources of bias and potential confounding variables should be considered.
