Solve the following problems using algebra and equations or explain with my chart/ratio idea if you can. Suppose you are mixing coffee as we did in class. If you have 25 bags of cheap coffee that is worth $5/pound, how many bags of $13/pound really good coffee do you need to mix in to get $9/pound coffee? What about if your goal is a $7/pound mixture?

Step 1
We know that the total cost of the cheap coffee is 25 bags * $5/pound = $125. The total cost of the really good coffee is x bags * $13/pound = $13x. Now, we need to find the total weight of the mixture. The total weight is 25 bags (cheap coffee) + x bags (really Show more…

Set up an equation or inequality and solve the problem. Be sure to indicate clearly what quantity your variable represents. Round to the nearest tenth where necessary. How many pounds of coffee beans selling at $\$ 6.65 / 1 b$ should be mixed with how many pounds of coffee beans selling for $\$ 4.25 / 1 b$ to produce a 24 -lb mixture that should sell for $\$ 5.75 / 1 b ?$

Show a complete solution to each problem. Blending coffee. Mark blends $\frac{3}{4}$ of a pound of premium Brazilian coffee with $1 \frac{1}{2}$ pounds of standard Colombian coffee. If the Brazilian coffee sells for $\$ 10$ per pound and the Colombian coffee sells for $\$ 8$ per pound, then what should the price per pound be for the blended coffee?

Marlena bought 1 2/3 pounds of French roast coffee and 3 1/8 pounds of Colombian coffee and paid $31.25. Rowen bought 2 5/12 cups of French roast coffee and 9/16 pounds of Colombian coffee and paid $15.15. Find the cost per pound of each type of coffee.
