Spin precession in a magnetic field
Elementary particles such as electrons have a spin quantum number s coupled with a charge, resulting in a magnetic dipole moment of μ. In the study of the magnetic properties of materials, an external magnetic field B is applied, and the response of the electrons in the material is observed. In this experiment:
H = -μ·B = -μz·B
μ = e·me·S
Write S in the Pauli matrix (σx, σy, σz), the matrix form of the Hamiltonian, and the available eigenstates for Sz!
