Sandra is completing a brief intervention with Isla. Isla has identified concerns about the frequency and amount of alcohol she is drinking, and admits to binge-drinking regularly. Isla comes from a large Italian family and lives at home with three generations of family members. The family is loud and supportive and often has family meals with lots of food and alcohol. They do not understand why Isla would want to stop drinking as everyone in the family drinks in moderation, especially at meals. Isla admits to Sandra when talking about her problem she has tried to stop several drinking so much on several occasions but has always failed. Isla attends her local church regularly, is active in the church’s social group and in a program that provides meals for homeless people. The social group often participates in activities where alcohol is present and she often goes out with friends after the meal program is finished. Sandra discusses how Isla can manage family meal times. Isla identifies that she can drink something else in a wine glass so her family don’t question her, and that she can recruit one of her sisters to support her during family meals. They discuss her social commitments and Isla tells Sandra she thinks she can drink soft drinks because she can volunteer to be the designated driver. She says she can also tell some of her friends she is on a detox diet. answer the following: Briefly describe two of the cultural contexts that Sandra needs to consider when conducting a brief intervention with Isla. give 20 words
