Task 1: Asynchronous Counters A counter counts the number of input pulses. Use as inputs a square 1 Hz signal with and Amplitude and offset of 2.5 V. An asynchronous counter is constructed by connecting several JK flip-flops in series and connecting the output of the previous flip-flop to the clock input of the next input. What should the J and K inputs be for an asynchronous counter? Explain how an asynchronous counter works. Use Multisim to construct a 4-bit asynchronous counter, using 74LS73D flip flops. Check that it works by connecting the outputs to a 4-bar orange LED and to a 4-input oscilloscope (see Figure 1). Can you see why this counter is called an asynchronous counter?
