We have learned through these unfortunate, naturalistic situations that human language requires exposure prior to puberty, with drastic deficits if this does not occur. This implies language has a critical period, not a sensitive period only. Language also has a productive quality, not a regular quality. According to the studies presented, visual-auditory cross-modal matching (hint: peek-a-boo) has been tested using the visual preference method, not the habituation method. It is not tested using the correlational or clinical interview methods.
