Nodes of Ranvier transmit action potentials and are covered in myelin. They are located at the ends of axons, not dendrites. They do not slow down the nervous impulse, but rather help to speed up the conduction of the action potential. The myelin sheath allows for saltatory conduction, where the action potential jumps from one node to the next. The nodes of Ranvier also play a role in the regeneration of damaged axons. They do not migrate via anterograde movement, as they are stationary structures along the axon.
