The gas phase reaction between methane (A) and sulfur (B) was carried out in a plug flow reactor (RAS) isothermally at a temperature of 600°C and a pressure of 101 kPa to produce carbon disulfide and hydrogen sulfide. The first-order reaction for each reactant with the value of the reaction rate constant (on the basis of the sulfur reduction rate), kB = 12 m^3.mol^-1.hour^-1. Methane gas and sulfur gas were flowed into the reactor at the rate of 23.8 and 47.6 mol/hour, respectively. Calculate:
a. volume of the reactor (V) required, if desired 18% conversion of methane,
b. reactor diameter (D) and reactor length (L), if the D/L ratio is set to 0.1,
c. residence time, assuming the gas is an ideal gas and there is no change in density.
