Hello students, in this question we have been given a case study where a 15 month old girl was diagnosed with several symptoms such as dyspnea, cyanosis, polycythemia and after her results the doctor confirmed that she is suffering from tetralogy of fallot.
00:45
So this is a condition where four heart defects are involved which is affecting or causing her to have these symptoms and because of her heart defects it is very less likely for her to lead a normal life.
01:08
And for that the doctors are recommending her parents a surgery, a corrective surgery but the mother is resistant to it.
01:22
So what is our way of helping the mother understand why the child is at a risk of right -sided heart failure? now one of the conditions of the tetralogy of fallot is that the right ventricle is very thick, the wall of the right ventricle is thick.
01:54
So if the child does any activity which might increase the rate heart rate, the child might quickly go into heart failure because the thick walls are lacking the ability to pump oxygenated blood and several occurrences of such incidents will lead her to even when can even lead to a fatal encounter.
02:38
So this is why it is the best option for the parent to opt for the corrective surgery because it will improve her chances of survival as well as a possibility of her having a normal life like any other person because of her inability to provide oxygen to the body as much as it needs.
03:04
It will be difficult for her to live a longer life because of the conditions that she is experiencing...
