The purpose of a portal is to provide a way to quickly access info without having to remember all the different web address. Portals have various features that are incredibly useful to the users it is meant for, such as on demand content relevant to its users, informational links to tools and services, and short cuts to forms, and documents. The Galen student portal is wealth of features I plan use to succeed in my online classes. These include student self service to help with financials, and student planning for courses, on demand tutoring and student advisory, student resources and workshops, and a plethora of other amazing features. When determining the difference between information coming from the intranet, and the internet at work I consider a few things. One of the things I ask myself is, is this information accessible to the public, or is this information only available to those with proper access? Another detail I consider is, is this information job specific, or is this general knowledge that is useful to a wide range of people? There are also a multitude of comparisons that we can draw from between the internet, and an intranet, such as the need for both to be accessed through a web browser. Also both use "similar security features enabling data encryption as well as firewall.(Asianet Broadband, 2024)"
