Co-channel interference can be minimized by setting up antennas in a particular direction. Destructive interference caused by waves taking multiple paths is generally frequency dependent. Two mobile sets using adjacent frequency channels can interfere with each other. Even dropping calls due to congestion is not a good idea. You need to use a Micro cell if you want to cover a radius of 500 meters. Base stations are always located at the center of cells. Consider a 10 Channel FDM system: The frequency of the first channel is 10 KHz. The symbol rate of each channel is 20 Kbps. The Guard Band between channels is 4 KHz and the signal-to-noise ratio will be 10 Kbps. The total bandwidth required is 240 KHz, if the use of OFDM is the total bandwidth required to multiplex these 10 OFDM channels will be 240 KHz.
