To investigate how sleep affects memory, a psychologist tested human subjects for retention of details from a documentary movie on arctic wildlife under two conditions. The first group was given the movie at 7 PM, the subjects had their normal night including sleep, then at 7 AM, the next day, they were each given a 50-question multiple choice exam on the movie. On the other hand the second group was given the movie at 7AM, the subjects had their normal day not including sleep, then at 7 PM that the same day, they were given a 50-question exam. The scores of the subjects of two groups were collated and recorded in the table below.
First Group (with sleep): 37, 36, 41, 28, 30, 27, 34, 39, 40, 41
Second Group (without sleep): 38, 27, 46, 27, 26, 24, 35, 24, 28, 24, 27, 39
Test whether there is a sufficient evidence to conclude that people with sleep has significantly more retention than people without sleep at 0.01 level of significance.
